The Biggie biopic must have proved to Hollywood filmmakers that there’s money to be made telling the behind the scenes story of Hip-Hop legends. New Line Cinema has begun pre-production of a biopic straight outta’ Compton centered around the west coast’s own NWA. Dr. Dre, Ice Cube and Tomica Wright, the widow of the late Eazy-E, have stepped in to produce the rap-umentary.
The biopic, tentatively dubbed Straight Outta Compton, will chronicle the lives of MC Ren, Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, DJ Yella and Ice Cube growing up in the streets of south Compton and the rise and fall of NWA — the world’s most dangerous group — culminating in the death of Eazy-E.
The film is currently searching for a director and undergoing script revisions according to various sources. A release date has yet to be announced.
